United States House Resolution #10: Institute a Living Wage of $20 Per Hour

WHY IT IS NEEDED: Today, the federal minimum wage is $6.65 per hour.  This means that if a person works eight hours a day five days a week at the end of the month he or she would receive a paycheck totaling $1,064 dollars, before taxes.    It is simply not possible to live on a thousand dollars per month.  To be sure, many rents and mortgages often begin at $1000 dollars per month.  This leaves very little left over for bills, food, and other living expenses.
On the other hand, many senior executives “earn” in the millions of dollars per year.  For the wealthiest CEO’s, their "compensation packages" can reach into the tens of millions of dollars per year.  Not only is a CEO or corporate executive not worth that much money but in paying them such high dollar amounts there is less money left over to divide amongst the people who actually produce the value (in goods and services) of a company.

HOW IT WILL BE DONE: We propose replacing the federal minimum wage with a “living wage” where no one in the United States will be paid anything less than $20 dollars per hour; totaling $3,200 dollars per month.  At the same time, all executive pay will be limited to no more than $250,000 dollars per year, including stock options and bonuses.
